From these the coastland peoples spread. These are the sons of Japheth in their lands, each with his own language, by their families, in their nations.


In the days of Ahasu-erus, the Ahasu-erus who reigned from India to Ethiopia over one hundred and twenty-seven provinces,


The king's secretaries were summoned at that time, in the third month, which is the month of Sivan, on the twenty-third day; and an edict was written according to all that Mordecai commanded concerning the Jews to the satraps and the governors and the princes of the provinces from India to Ethiopia, a hundred and twenty-seven provinces, to every province in its own script and to every people in its own language, and also to the Jews in their script and their language.


May the kings of Tarshish and of the isles render him tribute, may the kings of Sheba and Seba bring gifts!


In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant which is left of his people, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Ethiopia, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea.


Therefore in the east give glory to the Lord; in the coastlands of the sea, to the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.


Afterward he shall turn his face to the coastlands, and shall take many of them; but a commander shall put an end to his insolence; indeed he shall turn his insolence back upon him.


In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled.
