he lurks in secret like a lion in his covert; he lurks that he may seize the poor, he seizes the poor when he draws him into his net.


For lo, they lie in wait for my life; fierce men band themselves against me. For no transgression or sin of mine, O Lord,


“Whom will he teach knowledge, and to whom will he explain the message? Those who are weaned from the milk, those taken from the breast?


The godly man has perished from the earth, and there is none upright among men; they all lie in wait for blood, and each hunts his brother with a net.


As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to behold? A reed shaken by the wind?


And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.


For false Christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.


But do not yield to them; for more than forty of their men lie in ambush for him, having bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink till they have killed him; and now they are ready, waiting for the promise from you.”


You know that when you were heathen, you were led astray to dumb idols, however you may have been moved.


Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; be babes in evil, but in thinking be mature.


For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,”


For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God's word; but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.


We have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways; we refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.


O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified?


Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.


He must not be a recent convert, or he may be puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil;


You are aware that all who are in Asia turned away from me, and among them Phygelus and Hermogenes.


while evil men and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived.


For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings,


Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings; for it is well that the heart be strengthened by grace, not by foods, which have not benefited their adherents.


But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.


Look at the ships also; though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs.


For, uttering loud boasts of folly, they entice with licentious passions of the flesh men who have barely escaped from those who live in error.


They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out, that it might be plain that they all are not of us.


I write this to you about those who would deceive you;


Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world.


These are blemishes on your love feasts, as they boldly carouse together, looking after themselves; waterless clouds, carried along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted;


And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had worked the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulphur.
