And now the whole family has risen against your handmaid, and they say, ‘Give up the man who struck his brother, that we may kill him for the life of his brother whom he slew’; and so they would destroy the heir also. Thus they would quench my coal which is left, and leave to my husband neither name nor remnant upon the face of the earth.”


But if a man willfully attacks another to kill him treacherously, you shall take him from my altar, that he may die.


“But if any man hates his neighbor, and lies in wait for him, and attacks him, and wounds him mortally so that he dies, and the man flees into one of these cities,


Your eye shall not pity him, but you shall purge the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, so that it may be well with you.


“ ‘Cursed be he who slays his neighbor in secret.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’
