but he walked in the way of the kings of Israel. He even burned his son as an offering, according to the abominable practices of the nations whom the Lord drove out before the people of Israel.


And the Lord said by his servants the prophets,


Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that they did more evil than the nations whom the Lord destroyed before the people of Israel.


but they kept mocking the messengers of God, despising his words, and scoffing at his prophets, till the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, till there was no remedy.


“Nevertheless they were disobedient and rebelled against thee and cast thy law behind their back and killed thy prophets, who had warned them in order to turn them back to thee, and they committed great blasphemies.


On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the sons of men.


I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.


If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked.


and you shall know that I am the Lord; for you have not walked in my statutes, nor executed my ordinances, but have acted according to the ordinances of the nations that are round about you.”


Yet you were not content to walk in their ways, or do according to their abominations; within a very little time you were more corrupt than they in all your ways.


You shall say, Thus says the Lord God: A city that sheds blood in the midst of her, that her time may come, and that makes idols to defile herself!


And she has wickedly rebelled against my ordinances more than the nations, and against my statutes more than the countries round about her, by rejecting my ordinances and not walking in my statutes.


Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you are more turbulent than the nations that are round about you, and have not walked in my statutes or kept my ordinances, but have acted according to the ordinances of the nations that are round about you;


we have not listened to thy servants the prophets, who spoke in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.


Ephraim is oppressed, crushed in judgment, because he was determined to go after vanity.


O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not!


If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.


Whoever knows what is right to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.


But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and beguiling my servants to practice immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.


But the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel; and they said, “No! but we will have a king over us,
