For when Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.


He walked in all the way of Asa his father; he did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the Lord; yet the high places were not taken away, and the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.


Nevertheless the high places were not taken away; the people continued to sacrifice and burn incense on the high places.

Even Maacah, his mother, King Asa removed from being queen mother because she had made an abominable image for Asherah. Asa cut down her image, crushed it, and burned it at the brook Kidron.


And he brought into the house of God the votive gifts of his father and his own votive gifts, silver, and gold, and vessels.


His heart was courageous in the ways of the Lord; and furthermore he took the high places and the Asherim out of Judah.


He walked in the way of Asa his father and did not turn aside from it; he did what was right in the sight of the Lord.


The high places, however, were not taken away; the people had not yet set their hearts upon the God of their fathers.


And he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.


Nevertheless the people still sacrificed at the high places, but only to the Lord their God.
