Then the Spirit of God took possession of Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people, and said to them, “Thus says God, ‘Why do you transgress the commandments of the Lord, so that you cannot prosper? Because you have forsaken the Lord, he has forsaken you.’ ”


With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people took confidence from the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.


Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his?


He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength —who has hardened himself against him, and succeeded?—


Some boast of chariots, and some of horses; but we boast of the name of the Lord our God.


The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah


“Woe to him who strives with his Maker, an earthen vessel with the potter! Does the clay say to him who fashions it, ‘What are you making?’ or ‘Your work has no handles’?


no weapon that is fashioned against you shall prosper, and you shall confute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, says the Lord.”


Take counsel together, but it will come to naught; speak a word, but it will not stand, for God is with us.


From it too you will come away with your hands upon your head, for the Lord has rejected those in whom you trust, and you will not prosper by them.


I set a snare for you and you were taken, O Babylon, and you did not know it; you were found and caught, because you strove against the Lord.


Say, Thus says the Lord God: Will it thrive? Will he not pull up its roots and cut off its branches, so that all its fresh sprouting leaves wither? It will not take a strong arm or many people to pull it from its roots.


Together they shall be like mighty men in battle, trampling the foe in the mud of the streets; they shall fight because the Lord is with them, and they shall confound the riders on horses.


But Moses said, “Why now are you transgressing the command of the Lord, for that will not succeed?


He has not beheld misfortune in Jacob; nor has he seen trouble in Israel. The Lord their God is with them, and the shout of a king is among them.


And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand from each tribe, together with Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, with the vessels of the sanctuary and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand.


but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!”


What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who is against us?


for the Lord your God is he that goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.’


and you shall grope at noonday, as the blind grope in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways; and you shall be only oppressed and robbed continually, and there shall be no one to help you.


For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering.
