And he said to her, “Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite, and said to him, ‘Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it please you, I will give you another vineyard for it’; and he answered, ‘I will not give you my vineyard.’ ”


On the wicked he will rain coals of fire and brimstone; a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.


He who is greedy for unjust gain makes trouble for his household, but he who hates bribes will live.


An inheritance gotten hastily in the beginning will in the end not be blessed.


The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and a snare of death.


He who oppresses the poor to increase his own wealth, or gives to the rich, will only come to want.


Do not toil to acquire wealth; be wise enough to desist.


Woe to those who join house to house, who add field to field, until there is no more room, and you are made to dwell alone in the midst of the land.


Those who buy them slay them and go unpunished; and those who sell them say, ‘Blessed be the Lord, I have become rich’; and their own shepherds have no pity on them.

But Peter said to him, “Your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!


Put off your old nature which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful lusts,


The graven images of their gods you shall burn with fire; you shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, or take it for yourselves, lest you be ensnared by it; for it is an abomination to the Lord your God.


understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,


moreover he must be well thought of by outsiders, or he may fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.


For the love of money is the root of all evils; it is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced their hearts with many pangs.


As for the rich in this world, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on uncertain riches but on God who richly furnishes us with everything to enjoy.


and they may escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.


training us to renounce irreligion and worldly passions, and to live sober, upright, and godly lives in this world,


Israel has sinned; they have transgressed my covenant which I commanded them; they have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, and lied, and put them among their own stuff.


And in their greed they will exploit you with false words; from of old their condemnation has not been idle, and their destruction has not been asleep.


Woe to them! For they walk in the way of Cain, and abandon themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam's error, and perish in Korah's rebellion.
