and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were priests.


So King Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he struck him down, and he died.


So Benaiah came to the tent of the Lord, and said to him, “The king commands, ‘Come forth.’ ” But he said, “No, I will die here.” Then Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, “Thus said Joab, and thus he answered me.”


The king replied to him, “Do as he has said, strike him down and bury him; and thus take away from me and from my father's house the guilt for the blood which Joab shed without cause.


Then the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he went out and struck him down, and he died. So the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.


But if a man willfully attacks another to kill him treacherously, you shall take him from my altar, that he may die.


If a man is burdened with the blood of another, let him be a fugitive until death; let no one help him.


slay old men outright, young men and maidens, little children and women, but touch no one upon whom is the mark. And begin at my sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were before the house.


For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?
