from the nations concerning which the Lord had said to the people of Israel, “You shall not enter into marriage with them, neither shall they with you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods”; Solomon clung to these in love.


because he has forsaken me, and worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the Ammonites, and has not walked in my ways, doing what is right in my sight and keeping my statutes and my ordinances, as David his father did.


And if you will hearken to all that I command you, and will walk in my ways, and do what is right in my eyes by keeping my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did, I will be with you, and will build you a sure house, as I built for David, and I will give Israel to you.


And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.


So Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and did not wholly follow the Lord, as David his father had done.


And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,


Now Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. His mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess.


But the high places were not taken away. Nevertheless the heart of Asa was wholly true to the Lord all his days.


And he walked in all the sins which his father did before him; and his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father.


Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father; only, he sacrificed and burnt incense at the high places.


In the four hundred and eightieth year after the people of Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, he began to build the house of the Lord.


Let your heart therefore be wholly true to the Lord our God, walking in his statutes and keeping his commandments, as at this day.”


At the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the Lord and the king's house,


And as for you, if you will walk before me, as David your father walked, with integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that I have commanded you, and keeping my statutes and my ordinances,


“Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in thy sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.


“And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts, and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off for ever.


Grant to Solomon my son that with a whole heart he may keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, performing all, and that he may build the palace for which I have made provision.”


The Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the earlier ways of his father; he did not seek the Baals,


And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, yet not with a blameless heart.


He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, and walked in the ways of David his father; and he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.


“You shall have no other gods before me.


And he shall not multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away; nor shall he greatly multiply for himself silver and gold.


For they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods; then the anger of the Lord would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.
