And Abraham sojourned many days in the land of the Philistines.


“I am a stranger and a sojourner among you; give me property among you for a burying place, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.”


May he give the blessing of Abraham to you and to your descendants with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojournings which God gave to Abraham!”


For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together; the land of their sojournings could not support them because of their cattle.


And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The days of the years of my sojourning are a hundred and thirty years; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their sojourning.”


“But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from thee, and of thy own have we given thee.


O Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building thee a house for thy holy name comes from thy hand and is all thy own.


But man dies, and is laid low; man breathes his last, and where is he?


He comes forth like a flower, and withers; he flees like a shadow, and continues not.


for we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, for our days on earth are a shadow.


My days are like an evening shadow; I wither away like grass.


I am a sojourner on earth; hide not thy commandments from me!


Man is like a breath, his days are like a passing shadow.


“Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear to my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears! For I am thy passing guest, a sojourner, like all my fathers.


Look away from me, that I may know gladness, before I depart and be no more!”


For all our days pass away under thy wrath, our years come to an end like a sigh.


For who knows what is good for man while he lives the few days of his vain life, which he passes like a shadow? For who can tell man what will be after him under the sun?


The land shall not be sold in perpetuity, for the land is mine; for you are strangers and sojourners with me.


whereas you do not know about tomorrow. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.


Beloved, I beseech you as aliens and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh that wage war against your soul.
