So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brethren Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari, their brethren, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;


Asaph was the chief, and second to him were Zechariah, Je-iel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Je-iel, who were to play harps and lyres; Asaph was to sound the cymbals,


David and the chiefs of the service also set apart for the service certain of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with lyres, with harps, and with cymbals. The list of those who did the work and of their duties was:


Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shime-i, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the direction of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with the lyre in thanksgiving and praise to the Lord.


They were all under the direction of their father in the music in the house of the Lord with cymbals, harps, and lyres for the service of the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were under the order of the king.


And they cast lots for their duties, small and great, teacher and pupil alike.


and his brother Asaph, who stood on his right hand, namely, Asaph the son of Berechiah, son of Shime-a,


And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests in their vestments came forward with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the Lord, according to the directions of David king of Israel;


Truly God is good to the upright, to those who are pure in heart.


O God, why dost thou cast us off for ever? Why does thy anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?


We give thanks to thee, O God; we give thanks; we call on thy name and recount thy wondrous deeds.


In Judah God is known, his name is great in Israel.


I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, that he may hear me.


Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth!


O God, the heathen have come into thy inheritance; they have defiled thy holy temple; they have laid Jerusalem in ruins.


Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou who leadest Joseph like a flock! Thou who art enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth


Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob!


God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment:


O God, do not keep silence; do not hold thy peace or be still, O God!


When a man takes hold of his brother in the house of his father, saying: “You have a mantle; you shall be our leader, and this heap of ruins shall be under your rule”;
