Jesse was the father of Eliab his first-born, Abinadab the second, Shime-a the third,


And there was again war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, who had six fingers on each hand, and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in number; and he also was descended from the giants.


These were descended from the giants in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.


Jonathan, David's uncle, was a counselor, being a man of understanding and a scribe; he and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni attended the king's sons.


“ ‘Whom have you mocked and reviled? Against whom have you raised your voice and haughtily lifted your eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel!


Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.”


And the Philistine said, “I defy the ranks of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.”


And David said to the men who stood by him, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine, and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”


Your servant has killed both lions and bears; and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.”
