Then Judah acknowledged them and said, “She is more righteous than I, inasmuch as I did not give her to my son Shelah.” And he did not lie with her again.


I will say to God, Do not condemn me; let me know why thou dost contend against me.


and he sings before men, and says: ‘I sinned, and perverted what was right, and it was not requited to me.


“For has any one said to God, ‘I have borne chastisement; I will not offend any more;


who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of the air?’


But who can discern his errors? Clear thou me from hidden faults.


Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.


I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.


He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.


I have given heed and listened, but they have not spoken aright; no man repents of his wickedness, saying, ‘What have I done?’ Every one turns to his own course, like a horse plunging headlong into battle.


O Ephraim, what have I to do with idols? It is I who answer and look after you. I am like an evergreen cypress, from me comes your fruit.


Then Balaam said to the angel of the Lord, “I have sinned, for I did not know that thou didst stand in the road against me. Now therefore, if it is evil in thy sight, I will go back again.”


Put off your old nature which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful lusts,
