Of death the cords and sorrows did about me compass round; The pains of hell took hold on me, I grief and trouble found.


'Tis as a sword within my bones, when my foes me upbraid; Ev'n when by them, Where is thy God? 'tis daily to me said.


My soul is also vexed sore; But, Lord, how long stay wilt thou make?


Reproach hath broke my heart; I'm full of grief: I look'd for one To pity me, but none I found; comforters found I none.


For troubles great do fill my soul; my life draws nigh the grave.
