Of death the cords and sorrows did about me compass round; The pains of hell took hold on me, I grief and trouble found.


Who can his errors understand? O cleanse thou me within


Because gone up above mine head my great transgressions be; And, as a weighty burden, they too heavy are for me.


And so will I perpetually sing praise unto thy name; That having made my vows, I may each day perform the same.


Those men that do without a cause bear hatred unto me, Than are the hairs upon my head in number more they be: They that would me destroy, and are mine en'mies wrongfully, Are mighty: so what I took not, to render forc'd was I.


My flesh and heart doth faint and fail, but God doth fail me never: For of my heart God is the strength and portion for ever.
