When as mine enemies and foes, most wicked persons all, To eat my flesh against me rose, they stumbled and did fall.


Nor let them say within their hearts, Ah, we would have it thus; Nor suffer them to say, that he is swallow'd up by us.


From heav'n he shall send down, and me from his reproach defend That would devour me: God his truth and mercy forth shall send.


Thus said they in their hearts, Let us destroy them out of hand: They burnt up all the synagogues of God within the land.


Surely the very wrath of man unto thy praise redounds: Thou to the remnant of his wrath wilt set restraining bounds.


Come, let us cut them off, said they, from being a nation, That of the name of Isr'el may no more be mention.


For with joint heart they plot, in league against thee they combine.
