When Haman told his wife Zeresh and all his friends everything that had happened to him, his advisers and his wife Zeresh said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom your downfall has begun, is of the Jewish people, you will not prevail against him, but will surely fall before him.”


saying, “Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.”


For the Lord has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his habitation:


“This is my resting place forever; here I will reside, for I have desired it.


For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel as his own possession.


Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage.


Rise up, O God, judge the earth; for all the nations belong to you!


But the Lord will have compassion on Jacob and will again choose Israel, and will set them in their own land; and aliens will join them and attach themselves to the house of Jacob.


At evening time, lo, terror! Before morning, they are no more. This is the fate of those who despoil us, and the lot of those who plunder us.


you whom I took from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest corners, saying to you, “You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off!”;


Not like these is the Lord, the portion of Jacob, for he is the one who formed all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance; the Lord of hosts is his name.

And the Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, O Satan! The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not this man a brand plucked from the fire?”


He sustained him in a desert land, in a howling wilderness waste; he shielded him, cared for him, guarded him as the apple of his eye.


the Lord's own portion was his people, Jacob his allotted share.
