to provide for those who mourn in Zion— to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display his glory.


And seeing a fig tree by the side of the road, he went to it and found nothing at all on it but leaves. Then he said to it, “May no fruit ever come from you again!” And the fig tree withered at once.


Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.


You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name.


My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.


and, because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them, and they worked together—by trade they were tentmakers.


In all this I have given you an example that by such work we must support the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, for he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

So, when I have completed this, and have delivered to them what has been collected, I will set out by way of you to Spain;


Thieves must give up stealing; rather let them labor and work honestly with their own hands, so as to have something to share with the needy.


having produced the harvest of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God.


For even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me help for my needs more than once.


Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the profit that accumulates to your account.


so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God.


You remember our labor and toil, brothers and sisters; we worked night and day, so that we might not burden any of you while we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.


and we did not eat anyone's bread without paying for it; but with toil and labor we worked night and day, so that we might not burden any of you.


and sound speech that cannot be censured; then any opponent will be put to shame, having nothing evil to say of us.


The saying is sure. I desire that you insist on these things, so that those who have come to believe in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works; these things are excellent and profitable to everyone.


For if these things are yours and are increasing among you, they keep you from being ineffective and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
