They think in their heart, “God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it.”


Why do the wicked renounce God, and say in their hearts, “You will not call us to account”?


with speech smoother than butter, but with a heart set on war; with words that were softer than oil, but in fact were drawn swords.


I lie down among lions that greedily devour human prey; their teeth are spears and arrows, their tongues sharp swords.


And they say, “How can God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?”


They pour out their arrogant words; all the evildoers boast.


Rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.


The tongue of the wise dispenses knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly.


The mind of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil.


Have you not observed how these people say, “The two families that the Lord chose have been rejected by him,” and how they hold my people in such contempt that they no longer regard them as a nation?


The whispers and murmurs of my assailants are against me all day long.


You brood of vipers! How can you speak good things, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
