“As for me, I would seek God, and to God I would commit my cause.


My soul clings to the dust; revive me according to your word.


Confirm to your servant your promise, which is for those who fear you.


See, I have longed for your precepts; in your righteousness give me life.


Contend, O Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me!


Wake up! Bestir yourself for my defense, for my cause, my God and my Lord!


Vindicate me, O God, and defend my cause against an ungodly people; from those who are deceitful and unjust deliver me!


for the Lord pleads their cause and despoils of life those who despoil them.


But you, O Lord of hosts, who judge righteously, who try the heart and the mind, let me see your retribution upon them, for to you I have committed my cause.


Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name. He will surely plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth, but unrest to the inhabitants of Babylon.


Therefore thus says the Lord: I am going to defend your cause and take vengeance for you. I will dry up her sea and make her fountain dry;


I must bear the indignation of the Lord, because I have sinned against him, until he takes my side and executes judgment for me. He will bring me out to the light; I shall see his vindication.


My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;


May the Lord therefore be judge, and give sentence between me and you. May he see to it, and plead my cause, and vindicate me against you.”


When David had finished speaking these words to Saul, Saul said, “Is this your voice, my son David?” Saul lifted up his voice and wept.
