“often have they attacked me from my youth, yet they have not prevailed against me.


Guard me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from the violent who have planned my downfall.


Show me a sign of your favor, so that those who hate me may see it and be put to shame, because you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.


Do not rejoice over me, O my enemy; when I fall, I shall rise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me.


Since, therefore, the children share flesh and blood, he himself likewise shared the same things, so that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
