Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man and in high favor with his master, because by him the Lord had given victory to Aram. The man, though a mighty warrior, suffered from leprosy.


When I was a son with my father, tender, and my mother's favorite,


For jealousy arouses a husband's fury, and he shows no restraint when he takes revenge.


My child, keep my words and store up my commandments with you;


She seizes him and kisses him, and with impudent face she says to him:


Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth—


Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If one offered for love all the wealth of his house, it would be utterly scorned.


See, I am stirring up the Medes against them, who have no regard for silver and do not delight in gold.


And so people are humbled, and everyone is brought low— do not forgive them!


and so I make you despised and abased before all the people, inasmuch as you have not kept my ways but have shown partiality in your instruction.
