When Ben-hadad heard this message—now he had been drinking with the kings in the booths—he said to his men, “Take your positions!” And they took their positions against the city.


You shall not pervert the justice due to your poor in their lawsuits.


One who justifies the wicked and one who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the Lord.


It is not right to be partial to the guilty, or to subvert the innocent in judgment.


Ah, you who are heroes in drinking wine and valiant at mixing drink,


who acquit the guilty for a bribe, and deprive the innocent of their rights!


Drink no wine or strong drink, neither you nor your sons, when you enter the tent of meeting, that you may not die; it is a statute forever throughout your generations.


Moreover, wealth is treacherous; the arrogant do not endure. They open their throats wide as Sheol; like Death they never have enough. They gather all nations for themselves, and collect all peoples as their own.


You must not distort justice; you must not show partiality; and you must not accept bribes, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and subverts the cause of those who are in the right.
