When he turned around and saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two she-bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.


Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers;


“How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge?


I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when panic strikes you,


On the lips of one who has understanding wisdom is found, but a rod is for the back of one who lacks sense.


A rebuke strikes deeper into a discerning person than a hundred blows into a fool.


A fool's lips bring strife, and a fool's mouth invites a flogging.


A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the back of fools.


Toward the scorners he is scornful, but to the humble he shows favor.


Right away he follows her, and goes like an ox to the slaughter, or bounds like a stag toward the trap


If you are wise, you are wise for yourself; if you scoff, you alone will bear it.


Now therefore do not scoff, or your bonds will be made stronger; for I have heard a decree of destruction from the Lord God of hosts upon the whole land.


For the tyrant shall be no more, and the scoffer shall cease to be; all those alert to do evil shall be cut off—


If the one in the wrong deserves to be flogged, the judge shall make that person lie down and be beaten in his presence with the number of lashes proportionate to the offense.


for the Lord disciplines those whom he loves, and chastises every child whom he accepts.”
