A child who gathers in summer is prudent, but a child who sleeps in harvest brings shame.


Some give freely, yet grow all the richer; others withhold what is due, and only suffer want.


The hand of the diligent will rule, while the lazy will be put to forced labor.


The lazy do not roast their game, but the diligent obtain precious wealth.


The appetite of the lazy craves, and gets nothing, while the appetite of the diligent is richly supplied.


One who is slack in work is close kin to a vandal.


Laziness brings on deep sleep; an idle person will suffer hunger.


The lazy person buries a hand in the dish, and will not even bring it back to the mouth.


Do not love sleep, or else you will come to poverty; open your eyes, and you will have plenty of bread.


The lazy person does not plow in season; harvest comes, and there is nothing to be found.


The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to want.


Through sloth the roof sinks in, and through indolence the house leaks.


Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For it is on him that God the Father has set his seal.”


Therefore, my beloved, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
