25 And I contended with them and cursed them and beat some of them and pulled out their hair; and I made them take an oath in the name of God, saying, “You shall not give your daughters to their sons, or take their daughters for your sons or for yourselves.

When he turned around and saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two she-bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.


Then Ezra stood up and made the leading priests, the Levites, and all Israel swear that they would do as had been said. So they swore.


All who will not obey the law of your God and the law of the king, let judgment be strictly executed on them, whether for death or for banishment or for confiscation of their goods or for imprisonment.”


So I remonstrated with the officials and said, “Why is the house of God forsaken?” And I gathered them together and set them in their stations.


Then I remonstrated with the nobles of Judah and said to them, “What is this evil thing that you are doing, profaning the sabbath day?


and half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod, and they could not speak the language of Judah, but spoke the language of various peoples.


I also shook out the fold of my garment and said, “So may God shake out everyone from house and from property who does not perform this promise. Thus may they be shaken out and emptied.” And all the assembly said, “Amen,” and praised the Lord. And the people did as they had promised.


I was very angry when I heard their outcry and these complaints.


Hot indignation seizes me because of the wicked, those who forsake your law.


in whose eyes the wicked are despised, but who honor those who fear the Lord; who stand by their oath even to their hurt;


And you will take wives from among their daughters for your sons, and their daughters who prostitute themselves to their gods will make your sons also prostitute themselves to their gods.


Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law struggle against them.


I gave my back to those who struck me, and my cheeks to those who pulled out the beard; I did not hide my face from insult and spitting.


The Lord your God you shall fear; him you shall serve, and by his name alone you shall swear.


Do not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons,


For if you turn back, and join the survivors of these nations left here among you, and intermarry with them, so that you marry their women and they yours,
