From booty won in battles they dedicated gifts for the maintenance of the house of the Lord.


In those days I saw in Judah people treading wine presses on the sabbath, and bringing in heaps of grain and loading them on donkeys; and also wine, grapes, figs, and all kinds of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day; and I warned them at that time against selling food.


Did not your ancestors act in this way, and did not our God bring all this disaster on us and on this city? Yet you bring more wrath on Israel by profaning the sabbath.”


But I warned them and said to them, “Why do you spend the night in front of the wall? If you do so again, I will lay hands on you.” From that time on they did not come on the sabbath.


Moreover I and my brothers and my servants are lending them money and grain. Let us stop this taking of interest.


and you made known your holy sabbath to them and gave them commandments and statutes and a law through your servant Moses.


but the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, so that the poor of your people may eat; and what they leave the wild animals may eat. You shall do the same with your vineyard, and with your olive orchard.


Honor the Lord with your substance and with the first fruits of all your produce;


For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has—not according to what one does not have.
