He said, “Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord.” So he had him ride in his chariot.


But Jehu was not careful to follow the law of the Lord the God of Israel with all his heart; he did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam, which he caused Israel to commit.


They have distributed freely, they have given to the poor; their righteousness endures forever; their horn is exalted in honor.


They come to you as people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear your words, but they will not obey them. For flattery is on their lips, but their heart is set on their gain.


Therefore, O king, may my counsel be acceptable to you: atone for your sins with righteousness, and your iniquities with mercy to the oppressed, so that your prosperity may be prolonged.”


On that day the prophets will be ashamed, every one, of their visions when they prophesy; they will not put on a hairy mantle in order to deceive,


Say to all the people of the land and the priests: When you fasted and lamented in the fifth month and in the seventh, for these seventy years, was it for me that you fasted?


“For the Son of Man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay everyone for what has been done.


Jesus said to them, “Watch out, and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”


“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you lock people out of the kingdom of heaven. For you do not go in yourselves, and when others are going in, you stop them.


They do all their deeds to be seen by others; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long.


And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’


In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.


For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?


Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.


“And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward.


“Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.


And he cautioned them, saying, “Watch out—beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”


Therefore consider whether the light in you is not darkness.


Meanwhile, when the crowd gathered by the thousands, so that they trampled on one another, he began to speak first to his disciples, “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, that is, their hypocrisy.


And he said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.”


So he said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of others; but God knows your hearts; for what is prized by human beings is an abomination in the sight of God.


for they loved human glory more than the glory that comes from God.


How can you believe when you accept glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the one who alone is God?


When Peter saw it, he addressed the people, “You Israelites, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we had made him walk?


It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that try to compel you to be circumcised—only that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ.


You shall give the pledge back by sunset, so that your neighbor may sleep in the cloak and bless you; and it will be to your credit before the Lord your God.


He considered abuse suffered for the Christ to be greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to the reward.


Therefore we must pay greater attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it.


For God is not unjust; he will not overlook your work and the love that you showed for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do.


Be on your guard, so that you do not lose what we have worked for, but may receive a full reward.
