so as not to crouch among the prisoners or fall among the slain? For all this his anger has not turned away; his hand is stretched out still.

For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birth pangs.


“But before all this occurs, they will arrest you and persecute you; they will hand you over to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of my name.


then the Lord will overwhelm both you and your offspring with severe and lasting afflictions and grievous and lasting maladies.


When they say, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them, as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and there will be no escape!


Come now, you rich people, weep and wail for the miseries that are coming to you.
