When Peter said, “From others,” Jesus said to him, “Then the children are free.


Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to the emperor, or not?”


Show me the coin used for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius.


They answered, “The emperor's.” Then he said to them, “Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor's, and to God the things that are God's.”


But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now; for it is proper for us in this way to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented.


Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to the emperor, or not?”


The Israelites said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? Surely he has come up to defy Israel. The king will greatly enrich the man who kills him, and will give him his daughter and make his family free in Israel.”
