Some give freely, yet grow all the richer; others withhold what is due, and only suffer want.


Divide your means seven ways, or even eight, for you do not know what disaster may happen on earth.


When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.”


They replied, “We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish.”


In reply he said to them, “Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise.”


Some thought that, because Judas had the common purse, Jesus was telling him, “Buy what we need for the festival”; or, that he should give something to the poor.
