Its princes within it are like a roaring lion tearing the prey; they have devoured human lives; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many widows within it.


They covet fields, and seize them; houses, and take them away; they oppress householder and house, people and their inheritance.


“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you lock people out of the kingdom of heaven. For you do not go in yourselves, and when others are going in, you stop them.


You snakes, you brood of vipers! How can you escape being sentenced to hell?


“When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words.


and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets!
