May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the Lord.


my heart became hot within me. While I mused, the fire burned; then I spoke with my tongue:


Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens the wits of another.


Perfume and incense make the heart glad, but the soul is torn by trouble.


The Lord God has given me the tongue of a teacher, that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word. Morning by morning he wakens— wakens my ear to listen as those who are taught.


Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart; for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts.


If I say, “I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name,” then within me there is something like a burning fire shut up in my bones; I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.


Is not my word like fire, says the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?


he did not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything in private to his disciples.


Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures,


It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.


After they had set a day to meet with him, they came to him at his lodgings in great numbers. From morning until evening he explained the matter to them, testifying to the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus both from the law of Moses and from the prophets.


Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
