and whoever does not take up the cross and follow me is not worthy of me.


yet such a person has no root, but endures only for a while, and when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, that person immediately falls away.


Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, “You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.”


They compelled a passer-by, who was coming in from the country, to carry his cross; it was Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus.


For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it?


and carrying the cross by himself, he went out to what is called The Place of the Skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha.


There they strengthened the souls of the disciples and encouraged them to continue in the faith, saying, “It is through many persecutions that we must enter the kingdom of God.”


and for this reason I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know the one in whom I have put my trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard until that day what I have entrusted to him.


Indeed, all who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
