A scoffer seeks wisdom in vain, but knowledge is easy for one who understands.


The craving of the lazy person is fatal, for lazy hands refuse to labor.


The toil of fools wears them out, for they do not even know the way to town.


When you stretch out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood.


They come to you as people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear your words, but they will not obey them. For flattery is on their lips, but their heart is set on their gain.


From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force.


Someone asked him, “Lord, will only a few be saved?” He said to them,


Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”


Little children, I am with you only a little longer. You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’


Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For it is on him that God the Father has set his seal.”


You will search for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.”


Again he said to them, “I am going away, and you will search for me, but you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.”


For, being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking to establish their own, they have not submitted to God's righteousness.


For this I toil and struggle with all the energy that he powerfully inspires within me.


Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall through such disobedience as theirs.


Then they returned to Joshua and said to him, “Not all the people need go up; about two or three thousand men should go up and attack Ai. Since they are so few, do not make the whole people toil up there.”


Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more eager to confirm your call and election, for if you do this, you will never stumble.
