Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.


Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord granted his prayer, and his wife Rebekah conceived.


When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, she envied her sister; and she said to Jacob, “Give me children, or I shall die!”


King David was old and advanced in years; and although they covered him with clothes, he could not get warm.

By faith he received power of procreation, even though he was too old—and Sarah herself was barren—because he considered him faithful who had promised.


He had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
