God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.”


To the woman he said, “I will greatly increase your pangs in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children, yet your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”


So David sent messengers to get her, and she came to him, and he lay with her. (Now she was purifying herself after her period.) Then she returned to her house.


Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No one can.


What are mortals, that they can be clean? Or those born of woman, that they can be righteous?


How then can a mortal be righteous before God? How can one born of woman be pure?


Indeed, I was born guilty, a sinner when my mother conceived me.


The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:


If she bears a female child, she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her menstruation; her time of blood purification shall be sixty-six days.


When a woman has a discharge of blood that is her regular discharge from her body, she shall be in her impurity for seven days, and whoever touches her shall be unclean until the evening.


You shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness while she is in her menstrual uncleanness.


Or when you touch human uncleanness—any uncleanness by which one can become unclean—and are unaware of it, when you come to know it, you shall be guilty.


When the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
