Judah has gone into exile with suffering and hard servitude; she lives now among the nations, and finds no resting place; her pursuers have all overtaken her in the midst of her distress.


Since the days of Gibeah you have sinned, O Israel; there they have continued. Shall not war overtake them in Gibeah?


They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah; he will remember their iniquity, he will punish their sins.


And Joshua and all Israel made a pretense of being beaten before them, and fled in the direction of the wilderness.


When Israel had finished slaughtering all the inhabitants of Ai in the open wilderness where they pursued them, and when all of them to the very last had fallen by the edge of the sword, all Israel returned to Ai, and attacked it with the edge of the sword.
