The woman said, “Why then have you planned such a thing against the people of God? For in giving this decision the king convicts himself, inasmuch as the king does not bring his banished one home again.


Joab reported to the king the number of those who had been recorded: in Israel there were eight hundred thousand soldiers able to draw the sword, and those of Judah were five hundred thousand.


When the king of Moab saw that the battle was going against him, he took with him seven hundred swordsmen to break through, opposite the king of Edom; but they could not.


And when the people of Israel heard of it, the whole assembly of the Israelites gathered at Shiloh, to make war against them.


On that day the Benjaminites mustered twenty-six thousand armed men from their towns, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah.


And the Israelites, apart from Benjamin, mustered four hundred thousand armed men, all of them warriors.


(Now the Benjaminites heard that the people of Israel had gone up to Mizpah.) And the Israelites said, “Tell us, how did this criminal act come about?”


Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor with their army, about fifteen thousand men, all who were left of all the army of the people of the east; for one hundred twenty thousand men bearing arms had fallen.


When he mustered them at Bezek, those from Israel were three hundred thousand, and those from Judah seventy thousand.
