Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits; then we shall say that a wild animal has devoured him, and we shall see what will become of his dreams.”


For even your kinsfolk and your own family, even they have dealt treacherously with you; they are in full cry after you; do not believe them, though they speak friendly words to you.


While he was still speaking to the crowds, his mother and his brothers were standing outside, wanting to speak to him.


When his family heard it, they went out to restrain him, for people were saying, “He has gone out of his mind.”


Then his mother and his brothers came; and standing outside, they sent to him and called him.


Then his mother and his brothers came to him, but they could not reach him because of the crowd.


And he was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.”


Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.


When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This teaching is difficult; who can accept it?”


Because of this many of his disciples turned back and no longer went about with him.


But after his brothers had gone to the festival, then he also went, not publicly but as it were in secret.


for no one who wants to be widely known acts in secret. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.”


(For not even his brothers believed in him.)


But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, “Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say.


His eldest brother Eliab heard him talking to the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David. He said, “Why have you come down? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumption and the evil of your heart; for you have come down just to see the battle.”
