but the poor man had nothing but one little ewe lamb, which he had bought. He brought it up, and it grew up with him and with his children; it used to eat of his meager fare, and drink from his cup, and lie in his bosom, and it was like a daughter to him.


Azariah son of Nathan was over the officials; Zabud son of Nathan was priest and king's friend;


The poor man died and was carried away by the angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried.


No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father's heart, who has made him known.


So the sisters sent a message to Jesus, “Lord, he whom you love is ill.”


So the Jews said, “See how he loved him!”


Accordingly, though Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus,


Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask Jesus of whom he was speaking.


So while reclining next to Jesus, he asked him, “Lord, who is it?”


When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.”


So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.”


Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them; he was the one who had reclined next to Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?”


This is the disciple who is testifying to these things and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true.


That disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on some clothes, for he was naked, and jumped into the sea.
