He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him.


So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”


The Jews took up stones again to stone him.


and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them about their brother.


The Jews then said to him, “What sign can you show us for doing this?”


The Jews then said, “This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days?”


So the Jews said to the man who had been cured, “It is the sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your mat.”


The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.


Therefore the Jews started persecuting Jesus, because he was doing such things on the sabbath.


For this reason the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because he was not only breaking the sabbath, but was also calling God his own Father, thereby making himself equal to God.


Then the Jews began to complain about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.”


The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”


After this Jesus went about in Galilee. He did not wish to go about in Judea because the Jews were looking for an opportunity to kill him.


The Jews were looking for him at the festival and saying, “Where is he?”


The Jews were astonished at it, saying, “How does this man have such learning, when he has never been taught?”


Then the Jews said, “Is he going to kill himself? Is that what he means by saying, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come’?”


The Jews answered him, “Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?”


The Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and so did the prophets; yet you say, ‘Whoever keeps my word will never taste death.’


Then the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?”


And as John was finishing his work, he said, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but one is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the thong of the sandals on his feet.’


Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus.”


Guard against an outbreak of a leprous skin disease by being very careful; you shall carefully observe whatever the levitical priests instruct you, just as I have commanded them.


This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all.
