They said to God, ‘Leave us alone,’ and ‘What can the Almighty do to us?’


Is it any pleasure to the Almighty if you are righteous, or is it gain to him if you make your ways blameless?


For he has said, ‘It profits one nothing to take delight in God.’


If you ask, ‘What advantage have I? How am I better off than if I had sinned?’


those who say, “With our tongues we will prevail; our lips are our own—who is our master?”


All in vain I have kept my heart clean and washed my hands in innocence.


But Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should heed him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, and I will not let Israel go.”


or I shall be full, and deny you, and say, “Who is the Lord?” or I shall be poor, and steal, and profane the name of my God.
