making their land a horror, a thing to be hissed at forever. All who pass by it are horrified and shake their heads.


And I will make this city a horror, a thing to be hissed at; everyone who passes by it will be horrified and will hiss because of all its disasters.


Then after seventy years are completed, I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity, says the Lord, making the land an everlasting waste.


I am going to command, says the Lord, and will bring them back to this city; and they will fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire. The towns of Judah I will make a desolation without inhabitant.


Edom shall become an object of horror; everyone who passes by it will be horrified and will hiss because of all its disasters.


For out of the north a nation has come up against her; it shall make her land a desolation, and no one shall live in it; both human beings and animals shall flee away.


No stone shall be taken from you for a corner and no stone for a foundation, but you shall be a perpetual waste, says the Lord.

Is this the exultant city that lived secure, that said to itself, “I am, and there is no one else”? What a desolation it has become, a lair for wild animals! Everyone who passes by it hisses and shakes the fist.


And I am extremely angry with the nations that are at ease; for while I was only a little angry, they made the disaster worse.


The next generation, your children who rise up after you, as well as the foreigner who comes from a distant country, will see the devastation of that land and the afflictions with which the Lord has afflicted it—
