You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall go well with you.


But they flattered him with their mouths; they lied to him with their tongues.


Then he took the book of the covenant, and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient.”


Tell the innocent how fortunate they are, for they shall eat the fruit of their labors.


Are you a king because you compete in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him.


So Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces and all the people did not obey the voice of the Lord, to stay in the land of Judah.


But this command I gave them, “Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people; and walk only in the way that I command you, so that it may be well with you.”


Did what is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, working death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.


What then should we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet, if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”


For this reason the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law—indeed it cannot,


Go near, you yourself, and hear all that the Lord our God will say. Then tell us everything that the Lord our God tells you, and we will listen and do it.”


If only they had such a mind as this, to fear me and to keep all my commandments always, so that it might go well with them and with their children forever!


You must follow exactly the path that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live, and that it may go well with you, and that you may live long in the land that you are to possess.


The people said to Joshua, “The Lord our God we will serve, and him we will obey.”
