And Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison, the place where the king's prisoners were confined; he remained there in prison.


Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in the stocks, in prison, for he was in a rage with him because of this. And Asa inflicted cruelties on some of the people at the same time.


and say, ‘Thus says the king: Put this fellow in prison, and feed him on reduced rations of bread and water until I return in peace.’ ”


Yet you, O Lord, know all their plotting to kill me. Do not forgive their iniquity, do not blot out their sin from your sight. Let them be tripped up before you; deal with them while you are angry.


Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, “This man does not deserve the sentence of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”


At that time the army of the king of Babylon was besieging Jerusalem, and the prophet Jeremiah was confined in the court of the guard that was in the palace of the king of Judah,


Now please hear me, my lord king: be good enough to listen to my plea, and do not send me back to the house of the secretary Jonathan to die there.”


Now Jeremiah was still going in and out among the people, for he had not yet been put in prison.


then you shall say to them, ‘I was presenting my plea to the king not to send me back to the house of Jonathan to die there.’ ”


So they took Jeremiah and threw him into the cistern of Malchiah, the king's son, which was in the court of the guard, letting Jeremiah down by ropes. Now there was no water in the cistern, but only mud, and Jeremiah sank in the mud.


The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah while he was confined in the court of the guard:


But the tenants seized his slaves and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.


Therefore I send you prophets, sages, and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town,


they also blindfolded him and kept asking him, “Prophesy! Who is it that struck you?”


When he had said this, one of the police standing nearby struck Jesus on the face, saying, “Is that how you answer the high priest?”


arrested the apostles and put them in the public prison.


saying, “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and you are determined to bring this man's blood on us.”


and when they had called in the apostles, they had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.


Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Beware, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison so that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have affliction. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
