That person sings to others and says, ‘I sinned, and perverted what was right, and it was not paid back to me.


Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever follows perverse ways will be found out.


One's own folly leads to ruin, yet the heart rages against the Lord.


Dibon has gone up to the temple, to the high places to weep; over Nebo and over Medeba Moab wails. On every head is baldness, every beard is shorn;


For you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and have not remembered the Rock of your refuge; therefore, though you plant pleasant plants and set out slips of an alien god,


Whom did you dread and fear so that you lied, and did not remember me or give me a thought? Have I not kept silent and closed my eyes, and so you do not fear me?


Upon all the bare heights in the desert spoilers have come; for the sword of the Lord devours from one end of the land to the other; no one shall be safe.


This is your lot, the portion I have measured out to you, says the Lord, because you have forgotten me and trusted in lies.


But my people have forgotten me, they burn offerings to a delusion; they have stumbled in their ways, in the ancient roads, and have gone into bypaths, not the highway,


Can a girl forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet my people have forgotten me, days without number.


Look up to the bare heights, and see! Where have you not been lain with? By the waysides you have sat waiting for lovers, like a nomad in the wilderness. You have polluted the land with your whoring and wickedness.


With weeping they shall come, and with consolations I will lead them back, I will let them walk by brooks of water, in a straight path in which they shall not stumble; for I have become a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.


Cut off your hair and throw it away; raise a lamentation on the bare heights, for the Lord has rejected and forsaken the generation that provoked his wrath.


Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you have forgotten me and cast me behind your back, therefore bear the consequences of your lewdness and whorings.


If any survivors escape, they shall be found on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them moaning over their iniquity.


When I fed them, they were satisfied; they were satisfied, and their heart was proud; therefore they forgot me.

For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, but worldly grief produces death.
