Then Jacob called his sons, and said: “Gather around, that I may tell you what will happen to you in days to come.


yet if they come to their senses in the land to which they have been taken captive, and repent, and plead with you in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have sinned, and have done wrong; we have acted wickedly’;


Still the Lord did not turn from the fierceness of his great wrath, by which his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked him.


The Lord said, “I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel; and I will reject this city that I have chosen, Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.”


No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel, can avail against the Lord.


The Lord of hosts has sworn: As I have designed, so shall it be; and as I have planned, so shall it come to pass:


so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.


The fierce anger of the Lord will not turn back until he has executed and accomplished the intents of his mind. In the latter days you will understand this.


Because of this the earth shall mourn, and the heavens above grow black; for I have spoken, I have purposed; I have not relented nor will I turn back.


Raise a standard against the walls of Babylon; make the watch strong; post sentinels; prepare the ambushes; for the Lord has both planned and done what he spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.


It is sharpened for slaughter, honed to flash like lightning! How can we make merry? You have despised the rod, and all discipline.


and all flesh shall know that I the Lord have drawn my sword out of its sheath; it shall not be sheathed again.


But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your ancestors? So they repented and said, “The Lord of hosts has dealt with us according to our ways and deeds, just as he planned to do.”


In your distress, when all these things have happened to you in time to come, you will return to the Lord your God and heed him.
