I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.”


Your hand will find out all your enemies; your right hand will find out those who hate you.


You make friends with a thief when you see one, and you keep company with adulterers.


Indeed, those who are far from you will perish; you put an end to those who are false to you.


But as for you, come here, you children of a sorceress, you offspring of an adulterer and a whore.


Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem, Thus says the Lord: I remember the devotion of your youth, your love as a bride, how you followed me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.


O that I had in the desert a traveler's lodging place, that I might leave my people and go away from them! For they are all adulterers, a band of traitors.

If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. Because you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world—therefore the world hates you.


I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.


The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify against it that its works are evil.


For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life.


For this reason the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law—indeed it cannot,


Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?


For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, God decided, through the foolishness of our proclamation, to save those who believe.


Am I now seeking human approval, or God's approval? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still pleasing people, I would not be a servant of Christ.


Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
