thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field.


In little more than a year you will shudder, you complacent ones; for the vintage will fail, the fruit harvest will not come.


For ten acres of vineyard shall yield but one bath, and a homer of seed shall yield a mere ephah.


I will make it a waste; it shall not be pruned or hoed, and it shall be overgrown with briers and thorns; I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.


With bow and arrows one will go there, for all the land will be briers and thorns;


I looked, and lo, the fruitful land was a desert, and all its cities were laid in ruins before the Lord, before his fierce anger.


The inhabited cities shall be laid waste, and the land shall become a desolation; and you shall know that I am the Lord.


I will lay waste her vines and her fig trees, of which she said, “These are my pay, which my lovers have given me.” I will make them a forest, and the wild animals shall devour them.

But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and on the verge of being cursed; its end is to be burned over.
